FamilySpeak is a speaking app for kids 6 to 12 who grew up hearing Spanish or Haitian Creole at home but answer in English. Short daily lessons about real home life get them talking, reading, and chatting with their grandparents.

Each kid gets their own family language. Families with more than one language can pick a different course for each kid.

Spanish

Habla Spanish for heritage kids

80 lessons about food at home, family, school, feelings, games, outings and holidays. Accepts regional words and accents, from Mexican to Caribbean to South American Spanish.

Haitian Creole

Pale Haitian Creole for heritage kids

80 lessons built around Haitian family life: diri ak pwa, soup joumou, Kanaval, church, the market, and talking with Grann and Granpè. Native speakers are reviewing every line during the test.

How it works

  1. A parent sets it up in about 3 minutes. Make an account, give permission, add each kid with a nickname, age and family language.
  2. Kids do one short lesson a day. They hear a moment from home, answer out loud by holding the mic button, get gentle feedback, and read a short story. Stars, coins and a buddy to dress up keep it fun.
  3. Grandparents can join in. Send them a link and they record lines on a web page, no app needed. Kids hear their voices in lessons and can send a voice message back.
  4. Parents see the progress. A weekly report shows lessons done, answers spoken in the family language, new words, and a phrase to try at dinner.

Made for kids, controlled by parents

  • Only a parent can create the account and give permission.
  • We keep a nickname, age, boy/girl, family language and progress. No last names, photos, location or contact info.
  • Your child’s voice is deleted right after each answer is checked, unless you choose to save recordings.
  • No ads, no selling data, and no chatting with strangers.
  • Delete a kid’s data or your whole account anytime from the parent area.
